Inexpensive, but Great Souvenirs

Many of the things I have already talked about are great souvenirs!! Park maps, pins, Free buttons, Hopper Passes, Hotel Room Keys, and of course, the cute little mickey bottles from your hotel room bathroom.
Other things you can find that are not so expensive are pressed pennies. Some places you will find that the machine takes dimes and not pennies.

Before we left I got on Disney and bought each of our kids a gift card. They mailed them right to our home with a cute card and a personal message inside. I held on to them until we got to the park where I told them that once they spend their money, it is gone. Then they were able to keep the card as a souvenir. One of my favorite souvenirs is the all-you-can-fit-in-a-box Mr. Potato Head. You can find this at the Engine Ears Toys just inside the California Adventures.

Here is how it works and how to make the most of it. For around 20 bucks you get a box with
as many parts as you can manage to fit inside it. DO NOT buy the main potato there, either you already have one at home or you can find one at Walmart or Target for around 5 bucks. If you must buy the potato head there, stuff it full of small parts before you put it in the box.

Carefully place the large items you want in the bottom of the box. Then fit in as many pieces that you can, take your time and you will be surprised how many you can fit.

These are some of my favorite pieces I managed to fit in the box.

There are free things at Disney, if you look!!

If this is your first time to Disney, stop and pick up a 1st visit pin.
If you are having a Birthday, get a Happy Birthday Pin. They also have these pins at the font desk of the Disney hotels.
I also saw pins that said, Just married, Our Anniversary, and I'm celebrating!!Maps and schedules are free. Find them at the entrance to either park. Get a set when you come to look at and take another on your way out took keep as a souvenir. If you stay at the Disneyland Hotel, check in the desk drawer. You will find two post cards and some stationary. Take them, they are yours for free!

At the Mission Tortilla Factory, in California Adventures, you get a quick self guided tour. At the end, guests get a free tortilla. It needs some meat, tomatoes, and sour cream. But if you don't eat it, take it over the the pier and feed the ducks. The kids really like this part!

Disney Land Hotel Perks

When you stay at the Disneyland hotel you get these super cute room cards (the cards on the right). Each guest in your room gets their own card with their name on it. When you leave you get to keep your cards. I did not give my kids there cards until after the trip.
The Hopper Passes to the Disney Parks are just like gift cards. Don't loose them, they will not give you new ones!! You have to have these cards each time you enter the park and you will need them to get fast passes. My husband and I each kept a child pass with our own in our land yards. We had them face to face so the bar code could easily be scanned with out taking them out. Another perk of the of the Disneyland hotel is the special entrance to California Adventures. The entrance is inside the Grand Californian Hotel, it's a little tricky to find the first time. The great thing about this is a short line and the entrance is right by the Grizzly River run. The reason why this is so great is because that is where you get your fast passes for the World of Color show (a MUST see). You will want to enter the park first thing, run to the Grizzly River Run, and get your tickets ASAP for the best spots for the show.
They do sell lunches to get a ticket for a spot. But I saw the lunches and they are not worth the $14.99 per plate!! When you book through Costco Travel you get some great perks!! One of the perks was the land yard and collectible pin. I had no intentions of collecting pins, but they give you your first pin to trade. The green pins on the bottom right side are the pin that you get with your land yard. They are a good start for trading. Disney Pin Trading works like this: When you are inside the Disney parks, you will see some of the "cast members" wearing a black pouch with pins attached to them. You can walk up to them and trade anyone of your pins for theirs!! It gets kind of fun once you get going.
As you can see I have attached a small sharpie to my lanyard. This was great when every we needed an autograph book signed. I didn't have to go searching for a pen.
Also, on my kids lanyards I wrote my cell phone number in permanent marker, just in case they got lost.
My husband thought I was crazy for collecting little mickey bottles from our hotel room. But I felt that we had more than paid for them and the kids would love to have them at home. Any one need some shampoo?

Disneyland Tips

So has it really been that long since my vacation to Disneyland? I miss it so much and wish I could go back. But school is now in full swing and I am super busy. So here is one of many post to come!!
First tip: Book through Costco Travel and stay at the Disneyland Hotel!!
Let me explain why.
When you book through Costco Travel you not only get a deal, but you get lots of perks too!
For example:
Disney Premium Dining - This is such a fun event. To me, not really worth the cost. It would have cost our family of five $180.00. Just for dinner. But it was a perk of booking though Costco, so we were able to sit back and enjoy it!!
Some of the perks for booking through Costco are:
$20.00 Disney gift card - This has gone up since I booked. I only got $10.00. I think it paid for one treat for the kids (Disney snacks are SO expensive)
Costco Travel pin, land yard, and luggage tag - The land yard is not really cool looking. But it is nice to keep your Disneyland hopper passes and room key in.

Now why do I say you should stay at the Disneyland hotel. Well, this hotel is the most magical..... there are hidden mickeys everywhere. They have the Neverland Pool, which is the most kid friendly and even supplies the floating devices for the kids!!
The hotel is only 100 yard from the Monorail that drops you right off in the middle of Disneyland.
If you do stay at the Disneyland hotel, make sure to request the Dreams Tower. This tower was just recently remodeled.
Upon checking in they told us that the tower was completely full and we might be able to switch the next day. When we made it to our room we found out that this was now the tower being remodeled and it was loud! I quickly got on the phone and asked when we could switch. Just then they got a cancellation and were able to move us.
We went from this......

To this.... The other rooms are okay, but these ones are amazing. Just look at my pictures to see the personal touches!!

There were double sinks, which were very nice with 5 of us using them.

I bagged up my cute little mickey bottles everyday so they would give me new ones!! Aren't they SO cute?
The best of all what the castle that was above the beds. My kids made me turn it on every night before bed!!

There will be more tips to come, so keep checking in.

Shhhh, don't tell the kids!!

Our bags are packed (mostly), our tickets bought, and we will soon be on our way to
My husband and I decided to plan a big trip to Disneyland. But we also decided to make it a surprise for the kids.
Now me being the big deal shopper that I am, I have been scanning the Internet, talking to friends, and calling the hotel, just to find out how to get the most for our money!!
With this being said, I will not be posting on my savings blog for a whole week!!
But when I come back, I am going to tell you how we made this trip grand!! And some little secrets along the way!!
Wish us luck!
